SUMMARY:ArtsFarmington presents an Evening of Masterworks by Dvořák and Schubert
DESCRIPTION:ArtsFarmington is pleased to present the DaPonte String Quartet with guest artists\, Edwin Barker and Yuri Funahashi. The concert will be in the Nordica Auditorium\, of Merrill Hall\, at the University of Maine at Farmington on Thursday evening\, June 4th\, at 7:00pm.  Tickets can be bought online at artsfarmington.org or at the door. The suggested adult ticket price is $25.  The concert is free for UMF students. It is also free for youth 18 and under through our Arts Inspire Youth program. \nThe DaPonte String Quartet is proud to present a special concert event featuring acclaimed bassist Edwin Barker and pianist Yuri Lily Funahashi in a program celebrating two pillars of thechamber music repertoire: Antonín Dvořák’s Bass Quintet and Franz Schubert’s beloved “Trout”Quintet. \nThis unique collaboration brings together six exceptional musicians for an evening that highlights the richness and versatility of the quintet form. Dvořák’s Bass Quintet\, a rarely performed gem\, showcases the composer’s lyrical warmth and rhythmic vitality\, enriched by the sonorous depth of the double bass. Complementing this is Schubert’s “Trout” Quintet\, one of the most cherished works in all of chamber music\, known for its buoyant spirit\, luminous textures\, and the famous set of variations on Schubert’s song Die Forelle. \nEdwin Barker\, longtime principal bassist of the Boston Symphony Orchestra\, brings his extraordinary artistry and commanding presence to the stage\, while pianist and Colby College faculty\, Yuri Lily Funahashi adds brilliance and sensitivity\, making this collaboration a rare opportunity to experience these works at the highest level. \nTogether with the DaPonte String Quartet\, known for its expressive depth and dynamic performances\, this program promises an engaging and vibrant musical experience that celebrates both the intimacy and exuberance of chamber music. Edwin Barker is widely recognized as one of the leading bassists of his generation\, and Yuri Lily Funahashi is celebratedfor her refined artistry and compelling performances as both soloist and collaborator.
