DESCRIPTION:Each year\, the University of Maine at Farmington (UMF) Symposium showcases the academic excellence\, research\, creative work\, and experiential learning of our students. Students present both individual and course-based projects representing diverse academic disciplines. Through lectures\, demonstrations\, performances\, and interactive poster sessions\, they share original research findings\, thoughtful analysis\, and creative work with the community. All events are open to the public. \n2026 Symposium Day will be held on April 15\, and daytime classes will be canceled so the entire campus community can participate in this celebration of student achievement. \nIn addition to Symposium Day\, Arts Week will feature art installations\, performances\, presentations\, and new media projects across campus\, highlighting the creativity and talent of our students in a variety of mediums. \nFor a full schedule and more details\, visit the Symposium webpage or view the PDF Program. \n

SUMMARY:Burnt into Memory: How Brownfield Faced the Fire
DESCRIPTION:Drawing on interviews with townspeople\, letters\, photographs\, and newspaper reports\, Jo Radner tells the history of the furious 1947 wildfire that in a few hours destroyed almost all of the little town of Brownfield in western Maine. Neighbors fought and fled the fire\, saving what they could and supporting one another\, then returned to the devastated town to rebuild their community. In the Brownfield citizens’ own words\, Jo Radner tells an epic story of terror\, courage\, generosity and hope. Friday 17 April 2026. 7:00 pm. UMF Emery Community Arts Center\, $10 for adults.
