How we handle information we collect when you visit our web site
Web Server Activity Logs
Like most web servers, our servers collect and store all of the information that your web browser sends when it requests a web page. For each Web document you access (or attempt to access) we record, at a minimum, the following information:
- Your host computer’s numerical IP address
- The date and time you accessed our site
- The document you requested from our site
- The number of characters sent to your computer
- HTTP status code. E.g.,404 Requested Page Not Found
- The information your web browser software sends as its so-called “User Agent,” which typically identifies the web browser software and may also indicate the operating system and type of CPU used in your personal computer.
When you voluntarily provide us with personal information by filling out an online form, we use that information only for the purposes indicated on the form. For example, if you give us your name and mailing address to request information, we will use that data for that purpose. We may forward the information collected to whichever UMF personnel can respond most effectively. If you provided the information to us in error, you may request its removal at any time.
Retention of Collected Information
- Cookies – Some web sites may save a “cookie” on your computer’s hard disk to provide a temporary history of actions taken. We do not retain any record of “cookies” beyond what is needed to provide you with the web pages you request.
- Web server activity logs – These logs are retained for an indefinite period of time, for purposes of monitoring the performance of the web server software.
- Email – Information collected via e-mail will be retained at our discretion in a directly readable form for as long as necessary to complete our response. The e-mail itself may be retained in an archival form for reference purposes.
- Online Forms – Information collected via online forms may be maintained at our discretion for an indefinite period of time.
