Welcome to Maine – A State of Natural Beauty and Quality of Life

Maine is celebrated for its outstanding quality of life, and at the University of Maine at Farmington, we couldn’t agree more—we love it here, and we think you will too.

Portland, Maine’s largest city, is just 1.5 hours from Farmington, and the state capital, Augusta, is only 40 minutes away.

Maine’s state bird is the chickadee (not the blackfly, despite the jokes), and its motto is Dirigo—“I Lead.” With license plates that proudly read “Vacationland,” Maine is more than a place to study—it’s a place to thrive.

Our Region (Ski Country)

Farmington is nestled in the heart of Franklin County, located in the stunning lakes and mountains region of western Maine—also known as “Maine’s High Peaks” or “Ski Country.” This area is nothing short of picturesque, looking like something straight out of an L.L. Bean commercial, with its unspoiled lakes, rivers, and beautiful mountain landscapes.

Western Maine is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts, offering abundant wildlife like moose, deer, bald eagles, trout, and yes, even beavers (our school mascot!). It’s a destination for adventurers from around the world—and of course, a fantastic place to live and study.
