Biography

Barbara L. McKeen is an accomplished and strategic Human Resources leader with over 38 years of experience driving organizational success through effective talent management, employee and labor relations, and comprehensive HR strategy development. A proud Maine native, Barbara brings extensive expertise in union and non-union environments, health and ancillary plan assessment and implementation, payroll management, and collective bargaining.

As the Director of Human Resources for the University of Maine System, supporting the University of Maine at Farmington, Barbara is responsible for overseeing all facets of Human Resources. Her purview includes recruitment, employee and labor relations, and ensuring rigorous compliance with all applicable federal and state labor laws.

Before her current role, Barbara held senior Human Resources positions across diverse sectors, including banking, state government, manufacturing, and healthcare. Her broad expertise encompasses benefits administration, payroll operations, organizational structuring, labor and employee relations, and the strategic implementation of HR technology.

Barbara resides in Farmington, Maine, with her two rescue companions, Beau and Neige. Outside of her professional endeavors, she enjoys the outdoors and the many offerings of Maine, particularly when the weather is warm, and a beach is nearby.
