Julia Daly

Dr. Daly is a geologist with interests in landscape evolution and the geologic footprint of climate change. Most of her courses, including Environmental Geology, Surficial Processes, and Climate Change, focus on the intersection of geologic processes and human activity. All of her classes emphasize field experiences and take multiple trips to explore the geology of Maine. In addition, her upper-level courses use of the program’s ground-penetrating radar (GPR) to investigate a variety of local landforms. Her current research focus is small mountaintop lakes in western Maine that are indicators of how climate change is altering the high peaks region of the state. Other recent projects with students have included documenting the fossils found in post-glacial deposits, water quality monitoring on a local lake, and tracking erosion on a local river.
