Misty Beck
Biography
Dr. Beck coordinates the Learning Commons, a space dedicated to fostering student success through peer tutoring and academic coaching. She believes the right to an education is as vital for survival today as the right to common land once was, a conviction rooted in her doctoral research on the historic loss of these rights in England. Guided by the principle that learning is a process of growth and self-discovery, she hires, trains, and mentors a staff of 50 student employees, loving to watch them and those they tutor flourish. Away from work, Dr. Beck keeps her own New England traditions alive. She’s a passionate gardener, a nature poet, an avid contradancer, and an unpolished fiddle player. Her dog, Scout, tolerates the music but loves walking rural lanes with her best.
