Board of Visitors

What is "The Board"?

UMF's Board of Visitors is an advisory body composed of community and regional leaders who provide counsel to the university and assist in identifying and implementing university/regional partnerships.

The Board advises the UMF President on a wide range of issues regarding the university’s role and mission and its relationship to the people of Maine. Members also serve as public advocates for UMF, promoting understanding and support among the University of Maine System Board of Trustees, the state legislature, state agencies, businesses, school systems, social services providers, the media, and the general public.

Members of the Board are confirmed by the University of Maine System Board of Trustees and typically serve three-year terms.

As of 2024, the Board comprises 17 members, including professionals from various sectors such as education, business, government, and non-profit organizations. Notably, the Board expressed strong support for the appointment of Joseph McDonnell as UMF’s President, highlighting his leadership and strategic vision.
