Whether you need a job today, are looking to advance professionally in the future, want to explore new ideas, and/or are just ready to finish what you have started, we have a program for you. We’ll listen to your goals and help you pick the path that will work for you.

Professional Studies with Individualized Focus for those who want a degree focused on their interests and goals

The Professional Studies degree allows you to customize your education, building upon what you already know and taking you where you want to go with learning that is immediately applicable to the challenges of adult life.

We’ll work with you to design a path to degree completion that combines prior college credits, credit for learning from life and work experiences, and UMF courses.

This 120 credit-hour degree has three parts:

General education, 40 credit hours that provide breadth of knowledge and skills.

Professional Studies Major, at least 30 credit hours that combine a

Focus of at least 15 credit hours focusing on an area of relevance for you, and

Professional Studies Electives, at least 15 credit hours in six of the most frequently sought areas of professional knowledge and skills: communication, collaboration, creative-problem solving, critical thinking, leadership, reflection.

Open Electives, up to 50 credit hours, giving you additional flexibility to incorporate prior and explore new learning.

Focus on Business for those who want to build business knowledge & hone professional skills

Professional Studies with a Focus on Business

  • Available fully online and/or on-campus
  • Best fit for those who want to maximize transfer credit and learning from life and work experiences while building the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in the business world of today and tomorrow
Biology for Associates of Applied Science graduates in the Biotechnology Industry
    • Available fully online

    • Designed for graduates of Montgomery College’s Associates of Applied Science (AAS) in Biotechnology program, but applies to any AAS degree holder working in the Biotechnology industry

    • This 120 credit-hour bachelor’s degree
        • Builds upon Montgomery College’s 60 credit hour AAS in Biotechnology

        • Adds breadth with courses in Chemistry, Physics, the Humanities, and the Social Sciences

        • Adds depth with advanced coursework in Biology

        • Adds flexibility to incorporate prior and explore new learning with 15 open elective credits

Community and Public Health for those interested or already working in health and wellness
    • Available fully online or with a mix of online and on-campus courses

    • Best fit for those who have limited experience in the field and/or few prior college credits

    • This 120 credit-hour bachelor’s degree includes

        • Community and Public Health Major, 42 credit hours of learning with faculty in a broad range of specialties including nutrition, stress management, human sexuality, environmental health, disease prevention, and health promotion.

        • Open Electives, up to 38 credit hours, giving you additional flexibility to incorporate prior and explore new learning.

Professional Studies with a Focus on Community and Public Health

    • Available fully online or with a mix of online and on-campus courses

    • Designed for those working in health and wellness such as community health, health advocacy, and healthcare

    • This 120 credit-hour bachelor’s degree has three parts:

        • Professional Studies Major, at least 30 credits
            • Community and Public Health Focus, recommended courses:
                • HEA 127 – Introduction to the US Health System

                • HEA 210 – Environmental Health

                • HEA 218 – Health Behavior Change Theory

                • HEA 301 – Health Administration & Policy

                • HEA 310 – Principles of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion

                • HEA 350 – Principles of Epidemiology

                • HEA 410 – Resource Management and Grant Writing

                • HEA 411 – Planning for Health Education

  • Available for undergraduates and college graduates
  • Best fit for those who want to be able to demonstrate a solid grounding in data analytics
  • This 21-credit hour certificate includes essential skills in data analysis, visualization, statistical modeling, and computational techniques
  • Apply learning to real-world data challenges while completing resume-building projects

Professional Studies with a Focus in Data Analytics

  • Available fully online
  • Maximize transfer credit and learning from life and work experiences while building new skills in data analytics
  • Incorporate the 21-credit hour Data Analytics Certificate or the 18-credit hour Data Analytics Minor into a college degree demonstrating your professional skills
Public Policy for State and Municipal Employees and those interested in Government Service
    • Available fully online in either a traditional course-based format or in a competency-based format

    • Designed for state and municipal government employees and those interested in careers in government service

Teacher Certification Pathways at “Maine’s Education School” for Ed Techs, Career Changers, & Teachers

    • Bachelor of Science in Special Education
        • available fully online and/or on-campus

        • best fit for those who have limited experience in the field and/or few prior college credits

        • this degree prepares you to be a fully certified special education teacher

    • Bachelor of Arts in Professional Studies with the courses required for Special Education (282) Endorsement 
        • available fully online and/or on-campus

        • best fit for Ed Tech 2s and 3s and others already working in the field with significant transfer credit

UMF’s Adult Degree Completion Program helps busy adults finish their education with flexible online, on-campus, and hybrid options. Students can earn credit for work and life experience, maximize transfer credits, and access scholarships designed for adult learners.
