Bachelor of Arts: Visual Art

B.A. Degree with a major in Art & Design

Design Your World, Your Way

UMF’s Art & Design program equips students with a broad skill set by requiring courses across multiple disciplines, preparing them to work in today’s diverse creative environment.

UMF’s Art & Design program fosters a strong sense of community through group trips, collaborative projects, student clubs, and senior studios. In the senior studios, each student has a private workspace and shared areas to collaborate with peers, complete their senior thesis, and prepare a body of work for their exhibition.

Beyond developing practical skills as an artist, students gain a deep understanding of both contemporary and historical ideas in studio practice. The program also emphasizes the broader role of art, helping students see how creative work connects to local and global communities.

Save more than $5,500 per year in tuition.

Through the NEBHE Tuition Break program, students from Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont receive a $5,670 tuition discount on all UMF degree programs.

Art That Brings People Together

UMF’s Art & Design program emphasizes both creativity and community. Students collaborate on projects, participate in group trips, join student clubs, and work in senior studios, where they prepare their senior thesis and exhibition.

The program not only helps students develop practical artistic skills but also provides a deep understanding of contemporary and historical studio practices. Students learn how art connects to and impacts both local and global communities, preparing them to be thoughtful, skilled creators.

Pixel Hunter Student Short Film Project

During Arts Week, the UMF Division of the Arts presents Pixel Hunter, an end-of-year video project by University of Maine at Farmington students. It’s a collection of experimental short films and animations created by UMF students as part of their academic program in The Arts.

Pixel Hunter is typically held in one of the last weeks of the spring semester. Below are selections from the 2022 Pixel Hunter presentation.
