B.S. Degree with a major in Elementary Education

Teach, Inspire, and Make a Difference

The University of Maine at Farmington’s Elementary Education program equips you with the knowledge, practical skills, and confidence to become a caring and effective teacher.

At UMF, Elementary Education students begin connecting theory to practice early in their program through authentic, classroom-based learning experiences.

In the First Practicum, students apply foundational coursework in real classroom settings gaining valuable experience working directly with children and teachers. During Advanced Practicum, typically in their third year, students deepen their understanding of teaching and learning by engaging in more extensive fieldwork and refining their instructional strategies. The program culminates in the senior-year Student Teaching capstone—an immersive 16-week experience in a public school or early childhood setting, guided by UMF faculty and a mentor teacher. Many students describe this experience as the most transformative part of their education.

Save more than $5,500 per year in tuition.
