School Health Education
Teach Health. Change Lives
The School Health Education program at UMF offers hands-on learning experiences that help future educators promote children’s wellness, academic achievement, and quality of life. Through an emphasis on teaching-by-doing, students gain the skills and confidence to teach health education in Pre-K through grade 12 settings, earning certification for those age groups.
Coursework covers a wide range of topics, including child and adolescent health, stress management, substance use prevention, human sexuality, and disease prevention, alongside professional education classes that lead to a student teaching experience. Graduates are prepared to pursue licensure in the State of Maine, with guidance available for meeting licensure requirements in other states and territories.
