Billing and Cost of Attendance

Billing at UMF

Tuition at UMF is billed on a per-credit basis, so the total amount you owe will vary based on your course load. All billing information is sent electronically to your maine.edu email address—paper bills are no longer issued. Students are expected to monitor their account and billing details through Mainestreet, UMF’s secure online portal at mainestreet.maine.edu, where you can access your semester transactions in the Student Self-Service section. Please be aware that unpaid balances may prevent you from registering for future courses or receiving official transcripts.

Understanding Cost of Attendance at UMF

At the University of Maine at Farmington, we’re committed to helping you clearly understand the full cost of attending college. Your Cost of Attendance (COA) is an estimate of your total educational expenses for the academic year and is also used to determine your financial aid eligibility.

Cost categories vary based on:

  • Your residency status (In-State, Out-of-State, or New England Regional Program)

  • Where you live (on-campus, off-campus, or with parents)

Two types of costs are included:

  • Direct Costs: These are expenses billed directly by UMF, such as tuition, fees, and on-campus housing and meal plans.

  • Indirect Costs: These are estimated expenses not billed by the University, like books, travel, personal expenses, and off-campus living costs.

Keep in mind that the COA reflects average estimated costs and may not match the exact charges on your bill. It’s primarily used to help calculate your financial aid eligibility.
