Request a Transcript

Requesting Your Transcript at UMF

Requesting an official transcript from the University of Maine at Farmington is a simple and secure process for current students, alumni, and former attendees. UMF provides official transcripts through its authorized online request system, ensuring fast processing and delivery. Whether you need your transcript for employment, graduate school, or personal records, you can easily submit a request and choose electronic delivery or mailed copies.

Before requesting a transcript, be sure that all account obligations are resolved, as holds may prevent release. Unofficial transcripts are available to current students through their student portal for quick reference. With flexible ordering options and efficient processing, UMF makes managing your academic records accessible and convenient.

How to Order Transcripts

UMF offers multiple ways to request official transcripts. You can order electronically, through your MaineStreet Student Center, or by submitting a written or faxed request. Current students can also generate their own unofficial transcript directly in MaineStreet.

Electronic Delivery

For the fastest service, UMF partners with Parchment to send secure electronic or mailed official transcripts worldwide. This option is ideal when you need a transcript immediately, prefer not to wait for mail delivery, or are applying to employers or graduate programs requiring electronic submission. The fee is $7.00 per transcript (plus any taxes and shipping), paid by credit card at the time of the order.

Before ordering, confirm the recipient accepts electronic transcripts. If you are applying to another college for transfer credit, send your transcript directly to that school. Students applying to another University of Maine System school do not need to request an electronic transcript—those campuses can access it through MaineStreet as long as there are no account holds.

Transcript Requests & Account Holds

Maine law requires UMF to provide official transcripts or diplomas upon request, even if a student has an outstanding balance, though certain conditions may apply. Students with account holds must contact the Merrill Center to discuss payment options and may need to set up a repayment agreement before a transcript is mailed. Once arrangements are made, the hold will be temporarily removed to process the request and then reapplied until the balance is fully paid.

Ordering Transcripts Through MaineStreet

If you have access to MaineStreet and no account holds, you can request an official transcript directly from your Student Center. Log in, go to Self-Service → Student Center, then select “Transcript: Request Official” from the Other Academic menu. Enter the recipient’s name and address to complete your request. Transcripts ordered through MaineStreet are mailed and typically processed within five business days. You can return to your request page to check its status.

Submitting Written, Faxed, or Email Requests

Transcript requests may also be submitted in writing. You can complete the official Transcript Request Form or send a letter that includes all required information. Written, faxed, or emailed requests serve as a formal method for those unable to submit orders online or through MaineStreet.

Accessing Your Unofficial Transcript

If you have MaineStreet access and no account holds, you can print your own unofficial transcript. Log in, go to Self-Service → Student Center, then select “Request Transcript: View Unofficial” from the Other Academic drop-down menu. This generates an “Issued to Student” copy that can be printed for personal use.

Definitions: Unofficial transcripts are copies without a seal or signature, typically used for personal reference or in-house purposes. Official transcripts, in contrast, are sealed with the Registrar’s signature and University Seal, and must remain unopened until delivered to the intended recipient.
