Student Employment

Get Involved!

At UMF, over half of students participate in student employment through two main programs: the Federal Work-Study Program, based on financial need (via FAFSA), and the UMF Student Work Initiative Program, for those not eligible for Work-Study.

Federal Work-Study Program

  • Funded by the federal government and administered by UMF.

  • Awarded based on financial need, as determined by the FAFSA.

  • Students must apply for jobs and interview competitively; they are not placed in positions by the Financial Aid Office.

  • Earnings are paid directly to students via direct deposit and are not applied to tuition bills.

  • Work schedules are flexible, with jobs available during school hours, after classes, and on weekends

UMF Student Work Initiative Program

  • Created for students who are not eligible for Federal Work-Study but still wish to work on campus.

  • Not based on financial need; no FAFSA required.

  • Open to undergraduates enrolled at least half-time (6 credits), with priority for full-time students (12 credits).

  • Students can earn up to $2,500 per year, typically limited to one position at a time.

  • Returning students must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.75.

  • Like Work-Study, students must apply and interview for positions.

  • Earnings are paid directly to students and not credited to tuition bills
