Get Started

The first step in finding out how much money you can save on all our UMF financial aid programs is to fill out a FAFSA. Be sure to select University of Maine Farmington as a school so we receive the information. We’ll then be in touch with a financial aid notification.

Other Scholarships & Discounts

Many private organizations and community groups offer scholarships to help finance education. UMF encourages students to apply for outside scholarships and requires that any awards be reported in writing to the Financial Aid Office, as they may affect existing aid. The office also shares scholarship opportunities it receives from certain agencies.

Special Considerations for Financial Aid

Unusual Circumstances

Students who don’t meet the federal definition of independent but face unusual situations may appeal to the UMF Financial Aid Office to review their dependency status. Examples include abuse, parental incarceration, or inability to locate/contact parents. Financial independence alone, or issues like lack of parental support or FAFSA refusal, do not qualify. Appeals require documentation and are decided at the discretion of the Financial Aid Office.

Special Circumstances

Students experiencing events that may affect financial aid—such as unemployment, divorce, loss of non-taxable income, disability, death of a parent or spouse, or major medical expenses—should submit an Explanation of Special Circumstances form to the Financial Aid Office. Documentation is typically required, and submission does not guarantee additional aid.Tra
