Where Tradition Meets Active Living

University of Maine Farmington (UMF) has a proud and vibrant history rooted in athletics, competitive sports, and a deep connection to the outdoors. From NCAA Division III varsity teams to student-driven Club Sports and Intramural programs, there are countless ways to compete, stay active, and be part of a community that values heart, teamwork, and school spirit. Beyond organized sports, students can explore Maine’s trails, rivers, and mountains through Mainely Outdoors, enjoy group fitness classes or personal training at the Fitness & Recreation Center, or simply get outside and try something new.

Explore the many countless ways to stay active, engaged, and connected at UMF:

Varsity Athletics

Outdoor Recreation

At UMF, the outdoors isn’t just nearby—it’s part of everyday life. From skiing and snowboarding to hiking, kayaking, mountain biking, and camping, adventure is always within reach. Right off campus, students can explore trails, paddle the Sandy River, or hit night skiing at Titcomb Mountain. With gear rentals, lessons, and trips through Mainely Outdoors—and free season passes to Titcomb—UMF makes it easy to get outside, try something new, and make every day an adventure.

Fitness and Recreation Center

Open 7 days a week, year-round, the on-campus UMF Fitness & Recreation Center is the hub of student health, activity — and outdoor recreation through its Mainely Outdoors adventures program. The FRC features a fully-equipped weight room, a large cardio fitness area, three multi-purpose courts, a 1/8-mile walking/jogging track, and a 25-yard swimming pool. We also offer group fitness classes for all levels and abilities (step-aerobics, spinning, yoga, pilates, water workout, etc.), professional fitness trainers, swim lessons, and more.
