Francis Allen Black Hall (FAB)

Independent Living, Campus Connected

Francis Allen Black Hall, known to students as “FAB” Hall, is UMF’s Independent Living Community. It offers a perfect balance of independence and campus connection, giving students the opportunity to experience apartment-style living without leaving the heart of campus.

Suite Life with Community Ownership

Each suite in FAB Hall houses four students and includes a shared lounge, full kitchen, and a private en-suite bathroom and shower. This setup allows residents to enjoy the comfort and freedom of managing their own space while still being just steps away from classes, events, and student life.

Floors include laundry, study spaces, and lounge areas for daily convenience.

Flexible Household Arrangements

FAB Hall offers flexible suite arrangements, allowing students to choose between single-sex or co-ed living—provided all roommates agree. For even more inclusive housing, students can also request a gender-inclusive placement.

Each floor is equipped with laundry facilities, study areas, and lounge spaces, giving residents everything they need for a comfortable and balanced campus lifestyle.

Students with Junior and Senior status have the ability to drop their meal plan.

Guided Support and Community Programming

The hall is overseen by a professional Area Director who supports residents through community-building efforts and holistic development.

Two upper-class Community Assistants (CAs) help create a welcoming and connected environment by organizing programs that promote academic success, personal growth, and social engagement. These student leaders also serve as valuable resources for navigating life at UMF.
