UMF in the News: Stories from Maine Mountain Ponds
How are University of Maine at Farmington (UMF) students helping scientists better understand climate change in Maine? In a recent episode of the podcast High Water: Stories from Maine’s Mountain Ponds, UMF professors Julia Daly and Rachel Hovel discuss the Maine Mountain Ponds Project, a collaborative research initiative that engages students in hands-on ecological fieldwork across remote mountain watersheds in western Maine.
Students work alongside faculty to collect and analyze data on water quality, aquatic ecosystems, and environmental change, contributing valuable research that supports regional conservation efforts. The project provides meaningful undergraduate research experiences while advancing our understanding of how climate change is impacting northern Appalachian mountain ponds and lakes.
Listen to the episode below to learn more about the Maine Mountain Ponds project and the hands-on research opportunities available to UMF students.
