The Peace Corps Prep program at UMF offers undergraduates a unique path to develop professional expertise, intercultural understanding, and leadership skills—while preparing for meaningful global service. From hands-on experiences to graduate school benefits and lifelong friendships, this program empowers you to create change both abroad and at home.

About the Program

The UMF Peace Corps Prep certificate program — the first in the state of Maine — is a partnership between UMF and the US Peace Corps.

Open to all students in all majors, the program will give you

  • a competitive edge in applying to serve as a Peace Corps volunteer, if that’s where your path takes you after UMF;
  • enhance your resume for whatever career path you plan to follow after graduation.
  • and become a better global citizen.

Your Path Through Peace Corps Prep

The prep program is structured, achievable, and rewarding.
4 Requirements:

Work Sector Experience: 3 courses + 50 hours
Intercultural Competence: 1 core + 2 additional courses/experiences
Professional Development: Resume, interviews, leadership
World Language Skills (optional): Courses or heritage experience

6 Work Sectors to choose from: Agriculture, Education, Environment, Health, Youth in Development, Community/Economic Development.

  2. Meet with the Peace Corps Prep coordinator to identify your personalized pathway to completing the certificate.
