ArtsFarmington Portland Winds Concert
The concert will be held in the Nordica Auditorium, located at University of Maine Farmington’s Merril Hall, on Sunday, Sept. 20, at 3 p.m. Tickets can be bought online at artsfarmington.org or at the door. The suggested adult ticket price is $25 (which is discounted to $20 for members of ArtsFarmington) with tickets free for UMF students, as well as for youth under 18, through our Arts Inspire Youth program.
Formed in 2025, Portland Winds brings together five Maine-based musicians: Laura del Sol Jimenez on flute, Kathleen McNerney on oboe, Karen Beacham on clarinet, Wren Saunders on bassoon and Sophie Flood on French horn. All five musicians maintain active performing and teaching careers throughout Maine, and bring a wealth of experience, energy and enthusiasm to their performances.
The performance Sunday afternoon will feature a characteristically diverse offering, beginning with 20th century British composer Malcolm Arnold’s playful arrangement of Three Sea Chanties, and concluding with Portraits of Josephine, a jazz-influenced suite by the contemporary flutist, Valerie Coleman. In between, works by August Klughardt and Eric Ewazen allow the various members of the ensemble to showcase their individual talents while also providing the kind of textured performances that make for a night of unforgettable music.
