Arts and Culture

Arts in Our Hearts

At UMF, creativity thrives both on campus and in the community.

The University of Maine at Farmington is home to a vibrant arts scene that invites everyone—participants and audiences alike—to get involved. As the cultural center of the region, UMF and the greater Farmington area celebrate creativity in all its forms, from student performances and gallery exhibits to nationally recognized musicians, dance troupes, authors, and comedians. Whether you love music, theater, visual art, writing, or film, you’ll find endless opportunities to create, perform, and be inspired.

Get Your Arts On

UMF is alive with creativity, offering a wide variety of student-run groups, community partnerships, and year-round arts events. From theater productions, concerts, improv comedy, and student art exhibitions to film festivals, visiting writers, and live music at The Landing, there’s always something happening. With opportunities ranging from choirs, gaming marathons, and radio broadcasting to poetry slams and cultural celebrations, UMF gives every student a chance to get involved, showcase their talents, and be part of a vibrant arts community.

UMF Arts District

At UMF, the Emery Community Arts Center, Alumni Theater, and historic Nordica Auditorium create a vibrant “Arts District” right on campus. With galleries, performance spaces, and an innovative interdisciplinary arts curriculum, UMF offers students endless opportunities to collaborate, explore, and push the boundaries of creativity.

Pixel Hunter Student Short Film Project

Each spring during Arts Week, UMF students showcase Pixel Hunter, a collection of experimental short films and animations created in their arts courses. This annual event highlights student creativity and innovation, with screenings held during the final weeks of the semester.

Creativity Without Boundaries

At UMF, students in all majors are encouraged to explore their creativity through performance, film, and the visual arts. They act, direct, write, and stage productions; create videos and animations for the annual Pixel Hunter festival; and exhibit original artwork in galleries and across campus. By collaborating with peers and local arts organizations, students help shape a thriving arts culture in Farmington. At UMF, creativity has no limits—we dare you to dream big.

Arts Week

Each spring, UMF celebrates Arts Week, a campus-wide festival featuring student art exhibits, theater, music, dance, readings, and film. This year-end tradition showcases student creativity and talent in a fun, well-attended celebration of the arts.
