Testing Services Offered at UMF

The University of Maine at Farmington’s Testing Services provides a comprehensive suite of testing options for both UMF students and the general public.

Services include Livescan fingerprinting for background checks, professional licensure exams for careers in education, healthcare, and more, as well as graduate entrance exams such as the GRE. The center also offers test proctoring services for students taking online or remote courses, ensuring secure and professional exam administration.

Open year-round and located right on Main Street near downtown Farmington, UMF Testing Services is easily accessible and staffed by trained professionals.

In case of inclement weather

If the University of Maine Farmington is closed due to inclement weather, UMF Testing Services is also closed.

Services Provided

Livescan Fingerprinting

Livescan fingerprinting electronically captures fingerprints using a glass plate and scanner, eliminating the need for ink and cards. It’s faster, cleaner, and more accurate than traditional methods. This technology is used for various purposes including adoption, legal work, education, healthcare, finance, licensing, firearm permits, and many other industries requiring background checks.

Praxis I and II

The Praxis exam is a series of standardized tests designed to measure the knowledge and skills required to be an effective teacher. Created by the Educational Testing Service (ETS), these exams are used by many states as part of the teacher certification process. The Praxis series is divided into two main categories: Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators Focuses on foundational academic skills in reading, writing, and math. Often required for admission into teacher preparation programs or as a first step in certification. Praxis Subject Assessments Measures expertise in specific subjects, such as math, science, or English. Includes assessments on teaching strategies and pedagogy for your chosen grade level.

ParaPro

The ParaPro Assessment measures the reading, writing and basic math competencies of practicing and prospective paraprofessionals. In accordance with the No Child Left Behind Act, the ParaPro Assessment can be used to certify teacher’s aides and assistants in the instruction of these subjects to school children. Metro Institute

The Metro Institute provides online computer-based testing services for the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry (DACF). Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry proctored testing sites are located throughout the state. All persons desiring to hold a pesticide license with the must contact the Metro Institute to schedule a computer based exam.

Meazure Learning

Meazure Learning is an accomplished full-services certification and licensure testing company.

Kryterion

Kryterion helps technology, and fast-growing companies, associations, and education providers develop and deliver exams .

GRE

Most graduate school programs, especially master’s degree programs, require submission of Graduate Record Exam (GRE) General Test scores as part of the application process. The GRE General Test comprises Verbal and Quantitative (mathematics) multiple-choice questions and a two-part written section referred to as Analytical Reasoning.

College Level Examination Program (CLEP)

The most widely accepted credit-by-examination program in the United States, helping students of all ages earn college degrees faster by obtaining college credit for what they already know. By receiving a passing score, you can earn from 3 to 12 college credits toward your college degree for each CLEP Test you take, depending on the exam subject. ASE Automotive Service Excellence

“Automotive Service Excellence” inspires respect and confidence in industry professionals and consumers. Achieving this certification is a worthy goal for any mechanic. The ASE certification marks competence and professionalism. Employers often use this designation to identify qualified technicians.

ACCUPLACER

Placement in the appropriate college writing class is determined by SAT scores and / or a writing sample from the WritePlacer exam, which can be done at the University of Maine at Farmington Testing Center using ACCUPLACER. We can also assist you in finding other locations that may be closer to your home. Proctoring

UMF Testing Services will proctor exams from other institutions, for distance learners, or for individuals seeking certification / licensure. To schedule a test call 207-778-7666. Exams are administered Monday-Friday by individual appointment. There is a $35 non-refundable proctoring fee per exam, paid at time of scheduling by debit or credit card. For tests longer than 3 hours a fee of $10.00 per hour.

PSI

PSI leads the industry in providing assessment and evaluation programs for businesses, state governments and professional associations. PSI develops a range of assessments for pre-employment selection, evaluation, placement, and licensure and certification to provide workforce assessment solutions that enable our clients to match important individual capabilities with job demands.

Accomodated Testing

Accommodated testing is available to students who qualify for this service through Disability Services. Students are asked to fill out the Student Test Proctoring Request form at least two school days prior to the scheduled test session in their class. After they have received confirmation of their test, they are asked to show up early to the third floor of Franklin Hall for checking in before they are scheduled to begin. Any student who feels they need this service due to a documented disability should register with Disability Services.

Visitor Information & Arrival Guide

Check-in Policies

Please report at least 15 minutes prior to exam time with two forms of identification, which one must be a photo ID. No cell phones, electronic devices, or food/drink are allowed in the testing rooms. We provide lockers with a key.

Rescheduling policy

For Accuplacer, CLEP or Proctoring Services please give at least 24 hours’ notice to reschedule for these exams. Without this notification, there may be a charge to reschedule.

Directions to UMF Testing Services

UMF Testing Services is located in the University of Maine at Farmington’s Franklin Hall, 252 Main Street, Farmington — the tall white building at the corner of South Street and Main Street. Testing Services is located on the 3rd floor and is elevator accessible. Park in Lot 17 to the left of Franklin Hall. Please park in spots that are designated for Testing. On-street parking is also available but limited.
