Field Supervision Program
UMF Teacher Education
Through early and sustained field experiences, the Field Supervision Program at the University of Farmington (UMF) provides teacher candidates with opportunities to bridge theory and practice in meaningful ways. By engaging in classroom settings from the very beginning of their academic journey, candidates are able to see firsthand the complexities of teaching and learning. These experiences allow them to develop a deeper understanding of how to create personalized learning opportunities that recognize and support the unique strengths of each student. In doing so, they begin the essential shift from thinking as college students to acting as future educators, ready to take on the challenges of a diverse and evolving profession.
Student Teaching serves as the culminating experience of this preparation, uniting the knowledge, skills, and dispositions candidates have cultivated throughout their program. In this stage, teacher candidates assume increasing responsibility in the classroom, demonstrating not only their ability to design and deliver effective instruction but also to foster caring relationships and collaborate with colleagues. The Field Supervision Program ensures that, upon graduation, UMF teacher candidates are ready to enter the profession as reflective practitioners who are competent in their craft, compassionate toward their students, and committed to ongoing growth as educational leaders.
