Non-Discrimination Notice & Disability Accommodations

Our Commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Access

UMF is dedicated to fostering an inclusive community where all individuals are respected, supported, and empowered to succeed.

The University of Maine at Farmington prohibits discrimination in all forms. We are committed to providing equal opportunity in education, employment, and campus life, regardless of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, citizenship status, age, disability, genetic information, or veteran status. This commitment reflects our values of equity, respect, and belonging for every member of the UMF community.

UMF also ensures that students and employees with disabilities have full access to programs, services, and activities through reasonable accommodations. Inquiries regarding non-discrimination policies and accessibility may be directed to Barbara McKeen, Director of Human Resources, who serves as the campus contact for these matters.

How to File a Discrimination Complaint

UMF provides multiple avenues for addressing concerns about discrimination in employment or education.

In addition to campus contacts, inquiries or complaints may be directed to external agencies. Concerns related to employment or education discrimination may be referred to the Maine Human Rights Commission, while employment-related complaints may also be filed with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

Questions about UMF’s compliance with federal civil rights laws can be referred to the U.S. Department of Education, Office for Civil Rights (OCR). These laws include Title VI (race, color, national origin), Section 504 and the ADA (disability), Title IX (sex), and the Age Discrimination Act (age). Complaints with OCR generally must be filed within 180 days of the alleged discrimination.

Title II, Higher Education Act

In October 1998, the U.S. Congress enacted amendments to the Higher Education Act requiring institutions of higher education to report the “pass rate” of graduates on tests required by the State for teacher certification.

For 2016-2017, the institution pass rate for the University of Maine at Farmington was 100%, compared with the statewide pass rate of 99%, reinforcing the excellence of UMF’s programs and the quality of its graduates.
